Rules
- Each team will be given a laminated map of the saunas, with the coordinates of the saunas. The team can use a navigation application to navigate to the saunas.
- The team must register an orienteering chip (SI cards) at the arrival and the departure from each sauna spot. Chips will be given out at the event registration. First you register your entrance to sauna in timing marker IN and after you must register your time in marker OUT. If the team forgets to register one of these, the sauna is considered “not attended”.
- Only attendance will be marked at hot tubes and ice holes. There is only one chip registration point there.
- The team must pay a deposit of 50 EUR for a timing chip at registration. The deposit will be returned as soon as the undamaged orienteering chip (SI card) is returned. Deposit money will not be returned if the timing chip is damaged or lost.
- At registration, the team will be given 5 wristbands (4 participants + driver’s wristband). The team’s start time is indicated on the wristbands. 20 teams start together every 6 minutes. Please follow the organizer’s instructions and the race day guide sent by the organizer to the e-mail of the team representative. The start times are also displayed by the organizer at the registration and in the start area. Each team has been appointed their first sauna, it is mandatory to start with your appointed first sauna.
- Competitors must wear the wristband throughout the competition; without a wristband the sauna owners are not obliged to let you into the sauna. The team driver must wear the driver’s wristband and must be completely sober throughout the race. A team with a drunk driver will be disqualified from the competition and punished according to the Estonian Traffic Act.
- All team members must be in each of the saunas for a minimum of 3 minutes (excluding the driver if they are separate from the four team members). Time penalty of 15 minutes will be given for each sauna if the members are in it for less than 3 minutes. There is no clock in the sauna, participants must watch the time themselves.
- There are two “Mystery Saunas” in competition where the actual sauna time is not marked. There will be a time window marked on the sauna, the teams must choose how long to stay in the sauna in that window. The team who gets closest to the time gets the most award minutes. You can receive maximum 15 award minutes, which will be deducted from the teams overall time.
- Hot Tubs – Teams can earn a time bonus (team’s overall time will be reduced by 10 minutes) for every hot tub that they visit. To qualify all team members must go fully into the hot tub. There is no minimum time limit requirement when visiting Hot Tubs
- Ice Holes – Teams can earn a time bonus (team’s overall time will be reduced by 10 minutes) for every Ice Hole that they visit. To qualify at least one team member from each team must visit the ice hole. There are no lifeguards at the ice holes, but the organizers have will provide first aid equiptment. Going into the ice hole is at the participants own responsibility.
- Failure to go to a numbered sauna listed on the sauna card will result in an additional 15 minutes of penalty for each not-visited sauna to the team’s overall time.
- Teams with 4 members who complete the course before 18.30 will qualify for the ranking list and for the price raffle main award. Teams that finish later than 18.30 will be listed as “Sauna enjoyers” and they will not be included on the ranking list, but there are prices for best “sauna enjoyers”. All teams are included in the price raffle.
- Sauna owners and organizers are not responsible or liable for competitors’ injuries and/or any health problems occurring during the competition and will not compensate for any injuries or health damages.
- Sauna owners and organizers are not responsible for unattended personal belonings.
- Drunk competitors are not allowed in the saunas! It is forbidden to take glass bottles and alcohol with you into the sauna. Mineral water is provided to competitors at each sauna by the organizers.
- Do not violate the Estonian traffic laws. All Estonian traffic laws apply, and no exception will be made for competitors. Please follow the parking instructions at the saunas. If there not any parking organized, please be reasonable with your parking and consider other competitors too. If needed, help out fellow competitors.
- Please watch your driving speed. The entire team may be disqualified from the race for exceeding the speed limit and drunk driving. Your safety is taken care of by the Estonian Police – our good cooperation partner. There is also automatic speed measurement on the track, with mobile speed cameras.
- To redeem the competition prizes, the team representative must be present at the European Sauna Marathon award ceremony.
- By signing the registration sheet you confirm that you and your team members physical conditions allows you to go to sauna and you are responsible for yout health.

Option 2
The team has five members, four visiting saunas, and one additional driver.
